Ernesto "Ernie" Cardenas, age 49, has been George's best friend since the second grade and is his current co-worker. He's a bit childish and insecure, but grows as the series goes on. While he is silly, he is also nice, friendly and lovable. He works on the assembly line at Power Bros. Aviation, He appears as the Tritagonist of the sitcom.

Ernie has not always had a good amount of luck with being treated as an adult, but he is a big-hearted and lovable sweetheart and a very loyal friend.
While money has been an issue for him, like everyone in the series, he was more than happy to give George's family $3000 to help them pay off the damages to the garage.
He is also good with kids, he was more than happy to adopt Ricky to give him a home. He also dated a mother who only was with him because he took care of her kids while she went drinking and went out with other guys.

- Ernie was born on Valentine’s Day, the day of love. Just like Johnny Bravo.
- That is a bit ironic since Ernie and Johnny both have a very hard time finding love.
- Ernie is named after and based on a real-life friend of the real George Lopez who too had trouble with the ladies.
