Carmen Consuelo Lopez is the first child and only daughter of George and Angie Lopez. She's the secondary deuteragonist.

    Biography[]

Carmen was born to George Lopez and Angie Lopez as their first child. She lived with the family at their previous home(s) before they finally moved into the house featured on the show. She was able to walk to her elementary school early in life, as the family lived right down the street from it, at the time. George says to Angie that Carmen was "the canary in the coalmine" as their first child, and, in flashbacks and recollections, George would often fail to show much attention or enthusiasm for his first child.

    Season 1[]

Even early in the series, at age 13/14, Carmen demonstrated a knack for dishonesty, producing fake Doctor's Notes in order to get out of her swim class in the Pilot episode. In S01E02, she officially dates a boy her age named Duncan, despite much scrutiny from George. The relationship falls apart when Duncan breaks up with her because she is unwilling to submit to his more physical advances. The break-up deeply affects Carmen.

    Season 2[]

Carmen's social life runs into trouble early on when she decides to back up her childhood friend Tobey, and tells on her new popular friends for secretly bullying Tobey. The ringleader of the Mean Girls whom Carmen told on, Piper, becomes her rival.

An ex-boyfriend begins spreading rumors about sleeping with Carmen, which she claims is a lie. Regardless, her reputation is irreparably damaged and George and Angie agree to send her to a new school, Allendale.

    Season 3[]

While at Allendale, a private school, she met her future on-again, off-again boyfriend, Jason McNamara (played by Bryan Fisher), whom she dated for much of seasons 3 and 4. The early relationship starts off a bit rocky due to Jason's popularity, but thanks to George's intervening, the problem is remedied. The relationship progresses very well, with Jason even helping to tutor Max, before ending after Carmen learns that Jason has cheated on her with a girl who "does everything."

Season 3 ends with Carmen running away with Zach Powers, the womanizing, bad-boy son of George's boss, Mel, who has stolen $5,000 from his father and left.

    Season 4[]

Early in Season 4, Carmen and Zach have runaway, still minors, to San Francisco where Zach encourages Carmen to drink vodka with him in their hotel room. Carmen later claims she refused to get drunk, when talking to George. George learns that Zach and Carmen broke up in San Francisco and that she is still there, so he drives there with his father-in-law, Vic, to search for her. They expect the worst could happen to Carmen, with Angie grimly commenting that if nothing else, there was hope that Carmen's future pimp could give her off for Thanksgiving, so that she could return home for the day before returning to a life of prostitution.

According to Carmen, she was crying in the bathroom of a nightclub after Zach broke up with her when she was comforted by a woman. Carmen later referred to the woman as one of the rapper, Chingy's, dancers, and she recruited Carmen into their circle.

When George and her grandfather finally track Carmen down, she's at a party in a suite of the Regal Plaza Hotel. She refers to the group there as her "family.” Once George states that Carmen is only 15 years old, the gang immediately vacates the room. Back in LA, Carmen adamantly denies having had sex, and George appears to take her word for it. After returning home and briefly butting heads with her parents, Carmen agreed to live by their rules and calm down.

When trying to re-enroll at Allendale, the private school she attended the previous year, Carmen and her parents learn that she has been kicked out due to multiple tardies, public displays of affection, and her running away and appearance in the Chingy music video.

Angie decided to home-school her for a while after the expulsion, but Carmen grew tired of the home-schooling and spending so much time with her, and was sent to St. Theresa's Catholic School which was her only option left.

Carmen begged and pleaded with her dad to allow the two to stay under the same roof, something her father wasn't keen on doing. Regardless, he caved in and allowed him to live at their home.

    Season 5[]

Jason left her in season 5, due to the fact that she was trying to pressure him into marriage and having a child despite only being sixteen.

When Carmen found out that Jason ran away from her, she was devastated. Carmen was accepted into college causing her to move to Vermont, and pursue a career. Carmen is known for writing poetry whether it be sweet and deep or gothic and cruel.

    Family[]

Carmen is the daughter of George Lopez and Angie Lopez, and also, the granddaughter of Manny Lopez, Benny Lopez, Vic Palmero, and Emilina Palmero. She is the great-granddaughter of Dave and Luisa Diaz, as well as the niece of Linda Lorenzo, George Edward Lopez (II), Ray Palmero, Claudia Palmero, Gloria Palmero, and Richard.

Carmen is the grandniece of Cecelia Lopez, Joe Diaz, and Octavio and Lynette Palmero. She is older sister to Max Lopez. She is also Veronica Palmero's cousin.

    Appearance[]

Carmen is a fair skinned girl with brown hair, brown eyes. She sometimes wears clothes to impress others. She believes that if anybody makes a bad comment about her appearance, then she should change it. Carmen is very attractive and also looks like her mother Angie Lopez.

    Personality[]

Carmen is passionate, emotional, lacks self-esteem, selfish, naive, rebellious, reckless, smart mouthed, argumentative, dim-witted, and at times dishonest, ungrateful, careless, somewhat disrespectful, but ultimately kind at heart. She feels like she is held in a prison by her family and that they are controlling her, especially by her father, George, whereas Angie believes that Carmen has not yet reached her full potential and lets her do most of the stuff she wants to do.

Carmen and her brother, Max are always at each others throats since Max seems to interfere with almost everything she does in her life. Although they have the occasional rift, Carmen seems to love Max a lot and Max seems to love his sister the same.

Even though Carmen is a kind teenager, she always knows how to scare her parents into letting her do what she wants. She once told her parents she was pregnant so that she could get married to Jason. Although this was originally planned as a trick, she is shown completely unhesitant (even excited) to actually get pregnant for real; this scared Jason off.

    Trivia[]

    • Carmen was in 102 episodes before she was replaced by Aimee Garcia, who played her rich cousin Veronica Palmero. This was done due to conflicts in real life with Lusha and Lopez. Due to this, Lusha was written out of the series.
    • Carmen has been seen pregnant only once in the episode "George Searches for a Needle in a Haight-Stack" during the opening dream sequence.
    • In the episode "George of the Rings", Carmen said that her birthday was in November but, in "George is Being Elfish and Christ-misses His Family" there was a flashback to when Carmen was a baby and George said that she was only 3 months old and it was December, so she would be born in August or September.
    • In the episode, "It's a Cliffhanger, By George", Carmen left to attend college. The university she went to was "Northern Vermont State". That was her final appearance, but she is mentioned in a couple episodes after "It's a Cliffhanger, By George".George finds out that Carmen wears thongs in the series, but when he tells Angie this, he find out that Angie had actually given Carmen permission long before to wear the underwear; not seeing it as a big deal. This obviously shocks him.
    • Veronica Palmero took over Carmen’s role in season 6.
