Antonio, who is presently, as of 2017, a candidate for Governor of California in the 2018 election, he served as the 41st Mayor of Los Angeles, California (2005–13), member of the California State Assembly (1994–2000), the Democratic leader of the Assembly (1996–98), and the Speaker of the California State Assembly (1998–2000). After being termed out of the State Assembly, he was elected to the Los Angeles City Council (2003) and served until he was elected Mayor (2005).
In his cameo appearance in the episode "George's Dog Days of Bummer", Antonio, who's gotten awind of George's impersonation of him after George takes in a stray dog which Benny would regulary feed food scraps, which belonged to a rowdy biker who lived near Benny, who happens to be Duane "Dog" Hickman, as he persuaded "Dog" to sell him the dog for $200.
Antonio, at the time the mayor of L.A., dropped by the Lopez home to inform George that he not only knows about him posing as him, but tells him that if he keeps it up, the city wouldn't pick up his trash. When George jokingly asks how much it would cost to establish a "George Lopez" day, Antonio goes on to say to George, that instead of that, that people should concentrate on fixing up the schools, and making the streets "safer for all of us".
